Greetings and salutations, and welcome to my little home on the web.
I’m Audrey Sargent, Freelance Artist. When it comes to my job, the most important thing is to make your vision work for you. You’ve got one, even if you’re not sure what it is yet. Happily, my job is to help you figure it all out. I don’t believe my job ends with making your project look good- I believe my job is to make it look great, and then make it work easily and well.
That philosophy extends to every kind of work I do. Whether I’m animating, illustrating, or making a piece of fine art, I want the story to come across clearly and emotively. I want it to work on and for the viewer. If I’m building a website, I want it to be clean and simple to navigate, serve its function, promote your work, company, or product, and make sure it works and stays working. If I’m designing graphics, then they should work to promote your company and make you memorable.
I was trained at the Columbus College of Art & Design in Columbus, Ohio. I earned a BFA in time-based media design there, and loved every minute of it. My focus was on animation- specifically 3D, traditional, and Flash. The program also focused on artistic basics. It included film and video making and editing, storyboarding, photography, traditional drawing, painting, and sculpture, and three years of color and design classes.. They made sure you knew your stuff (and how to meet a million deadlines cheerfully.) I’ve since expanded what I learned there and applied it to an old hobby of mine- web design. I found ways to incorporate my animation training with Flash. From web design, I’ve made the natural transition to some print work, and I’m enjoying that as well.
I also love culture and art history, and have a minor in creative and business writing. I used those skills working a year for Africa Direct Inc., a very cool online seller of African and World artifacts. There, I expanded on my web skills and learned the ins and outs of eBay.
Since deciding to branch out on my own in August, 2006, I’ve been really enjoying working as a freelancer. I’ve learned new skills, including how to set up content management and blogging systems like Wordpress and PixelPost, as well as ZenCart, a great ecommerce platform. I keep teaching myself new skills every day, and with every job. If I don’t have a solution, I’m happy to figure it out and find one. Freelancing works for me because it’s the ultimate job for a closet life long student. Best of all, I get to work on all kinds of different projects, and meet all kinds of different people.
What sets me apart?
I believe in doing what I love to do, and in making a good living at it. Part of “making a good living” includes making sure you’re happy as a customer of mine, and that I’ve gone the extra step to make sure the job you’ve paid me to do is something you’re happy with.
I’m currently interested in entertaining a full time job that will let me do what I love every day!
