The plan is to continue offering service nation wide, and continue on with all my clients in the Denver/Boulder/Aspen areas.

I will be disconnected from the internet Friday the 30th through Tuesday the 3rd. All client jobs and communications are on hold at that time- everyone who needs to know should have been told, however if I missed you I apologize!

Feel free to email me if you’re interested in hiring me, just don’t expect an immediate response.

Thanks to those great customers who are happy and ready to make the move with me!

While I haven’t forgotten about this redesign (hardly, been working on it when I have time), my husband’s recently been laid off, and I’ve been focused more on working on current projects and gaining new ones than I have reworking my identity. I will still be doing so as soon as possible. Thanks for your understanding!

Well, first of all, lots of new work is up in Web Design, Graphic Design, and even something for the Flash gallery.

Eli Gottlieb, the author of “The Boy Who Went Away” and the just released “Now You See Him”, asked me to create a portfolio website for him. We got it launched in time for his appearance at the Sundance Film festival and inital book readings. You can check out his portfolio, read some selections, and get more information about his new book.

Lovely Confections Bakery, opening on Colfax here in Denver, CO, has been working with me for the last couple of months to have their logos, branding and look and feel, and website created. I’ve also recently completed a menu and a postcard for them. I’ll be very excited to see the new shop, and my logo done up as a neon sign. Go visit them and try a nummy, organic, and local cupcake!

I’ve also launched a redesign for a long time client, Brad Iwen of Iwen Exposures Photography. His redesign was a full flash site using a great slideshow software. It really focuses on his great work.

Tamika Lee, a friend of mine, needed a resume website, so we did a quick one page resume site for her. It’s already landed her a job!

What’s still in the works? The Elevated Kitchen, a cooking website for those of us at high altitude, has been designed and coded. We’re in the final stages of troubleshooting and putting in some content, but you should hopefully see this launch in the next month or so.

I’ve been contacted to do a website for Tibetan Heart Yoga of Boulder, CO.

I’m working on filling a portfolio for Chas Isenhart, a high end camera operator specializing in underwater film work, with content.

I’ve also been keeping busy with two clients I do steady work for, The Web Muse & Co. and aha! Process, Inc. While their work isn’t in my online portfolio, they’ve been giving me a steady stream of interesting projects!

Interested in hiring me on for web or graphic design work? Get in touch! I’ve got some minimal time coming up soon, which probably won’t last long if recent trends hold.

Also- look for this site to undergo a big change soon- it’s rebranding time for me! I’m working with an exciting new system called ProjectPier to make project management easier, and will soon be implementing that, and a new site design.

Thanks to all of you who have kept up with me- if you’re new, enjoy browsing around.

I’ve been very busy!

This is good, it’s also been teaching me a lot. I’m doing some of my first major graphic design work, and I’ve had some very interesting new forays into web design. I have two newly completed sites that will hopefully go up into my portfolio soon.

I’ve decided not to take on any more clients at this time.

I have some good reasons for this- the biggest being that my first official full year as a self employed individual is coming to a close. I’ve had a lot of great experiences, and learned a lot from all my clients! This has led me to the decision that I need to restructure my working process and my billing system, and I’m going to be revamping this website so that it’s easier to navigate and more to the point.

If you have any feedback about work I’ve done for you, or on the website, please drop me a line! I am no longer requiring you register or log in to comment, so go for it.

As far as personal projects, the WordPress themes have gone on hold in favor of sanity and taking on some of my more recent clients. They’re still planned!

Thanks, as always, for stopping by.

I know it’s been an incredibly long time, and I’m sure you were all thinking I’d NEVER update again.

Let me disabuse you of that notion.

There is new work in my Graphic Design, Web Design, Illustration, and Sketchbook galleries. I’ve been busy!

Graphic design updates include a new logo for a friend, a business card for some petsitting freelancers, some of the design work I did for the Ironic T-Shirt Corporation ages ago, and a nicer and easier to see presentation of the work I did for The Web Muse & Co. a while back.

I’ve also done some ads, postcards, and a flier for a big new client, though they’ve asked that I keep the work off my website. If you’d like to see it, jusk ask.

I am also doing work for a cupcake bakery called Lovely Confections - I am going to be working on their logo, all related design, and their website.

Speaking of web design, there are some updates, though all still in the concept area for the time being. I should have at least three websites going live in the next month or so, so be on the lookout for that!

One is a published author with a book coming out soon. Another is putting up his portfolio seeking work in underwater camera operating. The final is for a friend, and the site will be for his reel and resume.

In addition to all this, work on The Elevated Kitchen project has started up again, and I’m hopeful that that website will be up and running within the next six months.

There are a number of updates to the Illustration and Sketchbook galleries, though I will admit to most of it being at least a month or two old at this point! I am working on getting back into gear with my drawing, and I actually have a new project in mind (providing I can find the time for it.)

Go forth and browse, and don’t say I never did nothin’ for ya.

Also, hopefully further updates to my “Are You Ready to Own a Website” series coming soon!

Hi Folks,

I will be upgrading both my version of Wordpress and BBPress today to the newest versions, 2.3 and 8.3. IT IS HIGHLY UNLIKELY THIS WILL GO WITHOUT A HITCH.

So if things look wonky, you know why.

I have no good reasons for not posting up any content aside from the fact that I’ve been very busy and full up on clients since the move! Good in general, bad for the website. I will be doing my best to update soon- this software upgrade is a first step towards getting back into the ring.

If you still follow along, thanks.

EDIT:

Good news! It seems that this has gone off MOSTLY without a hitch. My “Resources” page is temporarily down, I will be fixing it ASAP. There is ALSO an issue with not all the forums showing up on Musemart- rest assured- THEY STILL EXIST! Your posts have not dissapeared. I just need to go in and attempt to work out why they’re not displaying.

I’m on top of it, and will hopefully have troubleshooted all this fun before too awfully long.

ADDITIONAL EDIT: Check it out, the Resources page is back up. Work on the forum will happen ASAP. Thanks for your patience!

Also, for those of you subscribing, I apologize- there is a bug with the subscriber plugin that is treating every post edit as a new post. I just downloaded a new version that should hopefully fix the problem.

FINAL EDIT: All the bugs have been worked out, so far as I know. Enjoy!

After reading three posting spats on Craig’s List this weekend, I decided to bring some more attention to this issue through my blog. Some of you who have been browsing my site, or following me for a while, will be aware that this is not a new issue for me, and something I am very passionate about.

There are a lot of people on Craig’s List (and frankly, all over the internet) who seem to expect illustrations, animation, design, web design, photography, etc. for free. I can’t count how many posts I see specifically requesting a “student”- from businesses or individuals hoping they’ll get someone who doesn’t know what their work and education is WORTH. I ran into the same thing when I was the switchboard operator at the Columbus College of Art and Design- we probably got at least two calls a day from businesses wanting students to gain “educational experience” doing work for them- for free. You know what we did? We told them they were out of luck, and hung up.

And yes, it IS worth quite a bit. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I paid $80,000 go to go art school. I am highly educated. I am proud of my skills.

This is a sore spot with me, so when I see people on Craig’s List posting that they want a wedding photographer for under $200 dollars and DON’T WANT THEM TO USE THE PRINTS IN THEIR PORTFOLIO– I get angry. Understandably, I hope! This is that person’s profession. Their life blood. How could they hope to make a living- support children- own a house- unless they shot HOW MANY weddings per weekend? Math is simple. And expecting them to pick up a shift at Walmart isn’t fair either.

To those of you out there who think you can’t get experience unless you work for free- think about what would happen if NONE of you worked for free? Then everyone in our field would rise a rung on the payscale, and we might actually start making a living.

I don’t work for free. And I have just over a year of experience. My first job? A website trade for photography of my entire wedding, and the prints, and digital copies. We decided their value was around equal.

Please don’t work for free.

Okay, rant off. That said, I’ve added a few links concerning this to the Resources section.

If you haven’t bothered to check it out, please do. It contains cool websites- from other artists, to inspiration and technical resources, to information on being self employed and making a living. If you have any contributions, give me a holler.

Go forth, educate yourselves!
